When it comes to choose a best blank DVD media, it’s a tough job at present. There was a time when pioneer was the only dvd burner drive, but with the change in time the market has been more competitive now. Buying a simple blank dvd media has become complex with influence of a lots of negative factors like duplication of brands and many more.
‘Blank DVD’ refers to a variety of disc formats. But the thing that should be concerned more is, which format or brands are the referred by the DVD drive manufacturers. As brands like Taiyo Yuden Dvd-R may have one recommendation and other manufacturer may have different recommendation.
When we talk about DVD or format of blank dvd, it can be mainly of two types:-
- DVD -R
- DVD + R
DVD -R
It is the most common format found in almost every country and it covers a huge share at the market. DVD-R has capacity of recording 4.7 GB, which is equal to 120min of high quality video. You cannot erase or rewrite data on this type of DVD once you have “burned” the data in it.
DVD+R
It is almost the same to DVD-R in context at appearance, capacity and performance, but the difference is in writing technology. Technically DVD+R is slightly better. The technology used in it is better in comparison to DVD-R.
The thing that is to be noted is, although it is mentioned that DVD disc can record 4.7 GB of data, it actually only records 4.3 GB. Both the above mentioned disc has specific writing speed. The latest media has writing speed of 16x, which means it can fully write in around seven minutes. But, there are also lots of other factors that affect writing speed of a disc.
